Agents & Agentic Systems
12Autonomous AI agents, multi-agent architectures, and agentic workflows
Agents & Agentic Systems
The Product Impact Podcast on agentic AI: what works, what fails, and why the hype cycle is finally meeting reality.
The Position
Gartner projects that 40% of agentic AI projects will be canceled by 2027. The failure mode isn't agent capability — models are getting more capable, not less. The failure is architectural. Teams are deploying agents onto assumed process maps, into data layers that weren't designed for autonomous access, without the governance, orchestration, or human-interface scaffolding that agent reliability requires.
The Product Impact Podcast's position on agents:
- The bottleneck is architecture, not capability. Data navigation, governance, orchestration, and human handoff points are the four layers every agentic deployment needs.
- Pilots lie. Agent pilots succeed on clean process maps with motivated operators. Production agents hit exceptions and fail loudly — and trust in the entire program evaporates.
- Verification is the product. In a world where agents can take autonomous actions with real-world consequences, the ability to verify what they did and why is more valuable than the capability itself.
